Martin Dutton Lizardman (1921-2009) of Huby near York was deaf this condition did not restrict him from becoming an excellent Yorkshire furniture maker and woodcarver.
Martin started his woodworking career as an apprentice to Robert Mouseman Thompson he was renowned for being a highly skilled craftsman and he was the most talented of a small group of deaf workers at Robert Thompson’s during the Second World War leaving in the late 1940’s.
Martin became the senior woodwork master at The Yorkshire Residential School for the Deaf in Doncaster.
